A dynamic and exciting programme of events has been
unveiled to celebrate Telford & Wrekin's CultureFest on 24
August, 10.45am - 5pm.
This brand new event is taking place in the Town Park Arena and
will include an exciting programme of sport, dance, singing, music
and the creative arts.
The Let's Get Physical Fun Run will kick-start the event at 11am
with a warm up at 10.45am. The two mile run is open to people of
all ages, walkers and runners alike and is push chair and
wheelchair friendly. Fun runners can run for a charity of their
choice.
Performance Programme in the Arena
The performance programme will begin as soon as the all of the
fun runners have left The Arena at approx 11.10am and will take
place in the main performance area in the centre of the Arena.
The event line up includes:
• Accoustics + Lyrics : Vocalist Glenn Millar with guitarist
Dean Kane will be performing Eric Clapton and James Blunt
songs.
• Four Legged Wonder: Winners of the 2006 Charlton School Battle of
the Bands, this punk, indie and soft rock band is going from
strength to strength releasing their first album Woke Up in
2007.
• Telford Chinese School: A performance by local youngsters
featuring Mongolian and Lion dance routines.
• Inertia Three piece local rock and indie band - high energy
entertainment.
• DJ Jim HB DJ from Wellington
• Line Dancing display Featuring dancers from the very popular Feel
the Beat Line Dancing group run by Alan and Barbra Heighway.
• Dezima Originally from Wrockwardine Wood Arts College, rock/retro
band Dezima were recent finalists in the Shropshire Star Battle of
the Bands.
• Khalila Fusion Belly Dancing display This Telford based dance
group will be performing a 'fusion' of belly dancing styles mixing
the traditional oriental with pop, folkloric and a bit of
tribal.
• Telford Stage School Featuring an array of 45 young singers and
dancers in vibrant costumes performing their latest routines on
stage.
• Telford Caribbean Sunshine Steel Band Groove to the sounds of the
Caribbean with this celebrated band from Hadley.
• Newport Gym Club Dynamic and exciting gymnastics routines.
• Adowa African Dance display Rhythmic dance originating from
Ghana
• Vocalist Hayley Edwards This talented 16 year old vocalist from
Shawbirch has just landed the lead role in a new production being
staged by the Leaps and Bounds project at Birmingham Hippodrome in
October.
• Basketball display
• Newbreed One of the hottest tipped emerging rock bands of the
moment.
• DNA Exciting hip and street dance with this award winning local
dance group.
FREE Fun Activities
A host of fun activities will be available for free from 11am
onwards. These include:
• Bouncy Boxing
Try your hand at boxing and enter the junior or senior knockout
tournament with prizes. A great fun activity supervised by the
Telford Amateur Boxing Society.
• Chinese Crafts
Feather ball kicking, Chinese Yo Yo, Chinese crafts and bookmark
making.
Located within the main Information Marquee.
• Graffiti Arts and Video Workshop
Come and be amazed by creative graffiti artists and enter the
'pod' to share your thoughts about what you would like to see on
offer for young people across the Borough. Organised by Connexions
for Youth and Telford & Wrekin Council's Children & Young
People's Arts Team.
• Tri Golf
Does a member of your family think they could be the next Tiger
Woods? Compete with them in Tri Golf with target golf shots and
games provided by Horsehay Village Golf Centre. Suitable for young
children.
• Storytelling
Young children are invited to drop in for some entertaining
storytelling. Grown ups can come too! From 2pm-2.30pm join Alice in
Wonderland and the Mad Hatter for some magical fairytales (Courtesy
of Wonderland).
• Inflatable obstacle course
Supervised fun for children of all ages.
• Rubbish and Recycling
Find out about the amazing things that can be made from our
rubbish and have a go at some fun competitions with prizes.
Presented by the Telford & Wrekin Recycling Team. Activities
for adults and children.
• Information Marquee
Visit the information marquee in The Arena and pick up details
about the activities you've seen at CultureFest and lots more
besides.
• Street Sport - Supervised inflatable football fun for children
and young people.
• Dancing on the Village Green from 1pm
Come and have a go at Tai Chi, Belly Dancing and Line Dancing.

experts.

• Team Extreme (located at the far end of The Arena)
BMX, Inline and Skateboard displays with a mini ramp show in which
riders will perform grinds, spins, flips and all sorts of crazy
technical moves launching into back railings and back into the
ramp.
Four fifteen minute performances will take place during the
afternoon from 12 noon onwards.
Free coaching sessions in skateboarding, BMX biking and inline
skating will also be available in between displays. All those
taking part will need to complete a Disclaimer Form issued by Team
Extreme on the day and under 16s will need full parental/guardian
consent.
Olympic Handover Celebrations
The performance programme and all free fun activities will
conclude at approx 4.15pm. Everyone in the Park will be invited to
come to the Performance Area in the Arena to join in a ceremony
specially created to celebrate the 2012 Olympic handover.
