From 1st April 2008 the Concessionary Travel Scheme offers the new
English Concessionary Travel Pass. It will allow free travel on
local bus services throughout England, between 9.30am and 11.00pm
Monday to Friday and at any time on Saturday, Sunday and Bank
Holidays.

for Concessionary Travel? If you live
permanently in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin and you come
within at least one of the groups listed below, you may be entitled
to Concessionary Travel.
or
- Registered blind or partially sighted, having either total or a
high degree of visual loss
- Profoundly or severely deaf and/or without speech
- Someone who has a disability or injury which has substantial
and long-term adverse effect on their ability to walk
- Someone who does not have arms or has long term loss of the use
of both arms
- Someone who has a learning disability, that is, a state of
arrested or incomplete development of mind, which includes
significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning
- Someone who has been, or would be refused a driving licence on
certain medical grounds

Available You may choose only one option

The new English Concessionary Travel Pass From 1st
April 2008 the Concessionary Travel Scheme offers the new English
Concessionary Travel Pass. It will allow free travel on local bus

Residents
Telford & Wrekin Council offer different options to residents
who prefer not to take up the English Concessionary Travel Pass.
You may choose only one option in any period of 12 months which
cannot be changed during that time so please consider your needs
carefully.

Companion
Travel If you are unable to travel alone
without assistance, you will be entitled to a special travel pass
entitling a companion to travel with you on production of
entitlement to carer's allowance, (this does not need to be the
same carer every time). Travel for the companion will be restricted
to journeys that start within the Telford and Wrekin area only and
usual time restrictions will apply.
Your companion will not be entitled to free travel if
boarding outside the Telford and Wrekin

How do I apply for
Concessionary Travel?
To apply for Concessionary Travel you must complete an application
form. These are available from Telford Travelink office in Telford
Town Centre bus station, libraries or by calling Telford Travelink
on 01952 200005. Completed application forms should be returned
to:

Payment should be enclosed only if you are applying for:
- The Disabled Persons Railcard (enclose a Postal Order for
£8)
- Dial a Ride (you will need to complete the separate Dial a Ride
application form which is available from Telford Travelink and
enclose a cheque or postal order for £2)
Payments by cheque or Postal Order only, should
be made payable to Telford & Wrekin Council.
Photographs The
English Concessionary Travel Pass must have a photo of you on it.
This will prevent the misuse of passes by others if it is lost or
stolen.
When your application has been processed you will be asked to come
to the Travelink Office to have your photograph taken. We cannot
use your own photograph as it needs to be in a format compatible to
our computers. We will not use a flash camera for the
photograph.
Please be aware it may take up to 28 days for you to receive your
English Concessionary Travel Pass after your photograph is
taken.
Following your application you will be asked to provide proof of

- Telford & Wrekin Social Care Disability Registration for
learning disability only
- Current proof of receipt of Disability Living Allowance with
mobility component at higher rate
- Current proof of Attendance Allowance
- Current proof of receipt of Industrial Injuries Disabilities
Benefit/Reduce Earnings Allowance
- Current proof of receipt of War Disability Pension - 80% or
more disability
- Production of a disabled persons parking badge (Blue
Badge)

Registration with Telford & Wrekin Social Care will not
automatically prove eligibility for Concessionary Travel.

After registering please keep us informed of any change of name or
address by calling the Concessionary Travel Team on 01952 200005.
This will ensure you receive a renewal letter before your
concession expires.
If you lose your Travel Pass please notify the Concessionary Travel
Team immediately on 01952 200005. You will be sent a form to
complete and sign. A fee of £5 will be payable for the replacement
Travel Pass.

Telford Dial a Ride 2008
Why have a Dial a Ride service? The Dial
a Ride scheme operates in the urban area of Telford and is intended
for residents who cannot access conventional public transport due
to mobility problems.
Dial a Ride offers a door to door service. All vehicles are modern
and easy to access, with the ability to carry passengers in
wheelchairs. All staff are fully trained in disability awareness
and passenger safety to ensure the comfort and well being of
customers.

Am I entitled to use the Dial a Ride
Service? Dial-a-Ride forms part of the
Telford & Wrekin Council Concessionary Travel Scheme, details
of which are available above. The Dial-a-Ride scheme is intended
for the residents of Telford who cannot access conventional public
transport due to mobility problems.
If the following apply, you may be eligible for the Dial a Ride
scheme.
- Aged 60 or over with mobility
problems.
You may be a wheelchair user, or you may
have difficulty accessing conventional public transport due to
restrictions to your mobility.
- Under 60 years old and a disabled person
You may be a wheelchair user or you may be unable to use
conventional public transport due to your disability. You must be
eligible for Concessionary Travel as a disabled person. The
criteria for this are listed above.
Please Note
Dial-a-Ride is offered as an alternative to the English
Concessionary Travel Pass and by opting for this you will give up
your right to choose the English Concessionary Travel Pass or any
other option for a period of 12 months.

How much will it cost?
There will be an
annual registration fee of £2 and a contribution of £1 for each
trip made (regardless of single or return), which is payable before
starting the outward journey.

Where can I go?
You can travel anywhere within the Telford Urban Area as shown on
the map on the leaflet.
Dial-a-Ride will enable you to access doctors, dentists,
shopping facilities, leisure facilities eg bingo, theatre, social
clubs etc, local centres and libraries to name but a few.
Unfortunately, Dial-a-Ride cannot be used for hospital
appointments.

How do I book?

24 hour service by answer machine
The high demand for this service means that it is advisable to
book your journeys as soon as possible. The earliest you can book
is after 12.30pm one week in advance of the date on which you wish
to travel. Bookings must be made at least two working days prior to
travel.

What mobility aids can I take?
All vehicles used on the Dial-a-Ride service can accommodate
wheelchairs and walking frames. Unfortunately, for health and
safety reasons they are unable to carry electric scooters.
When booking your travel arrangements, you need to tell us if
you have any mobility aids and what they are.
There is however, limited availability on each journey to
accommodate such aids, this will be booked on a first come first
served basis.

Registration for Dial a Ride may depend upon a successful risk
assessment of your needs.

Who can I
take with me? We recognise that
sometimes people need assistance when traveling or with their
planned activities. If you are unable to travel alone and need help
during your outing, a companion or helper may travel with you at a
charge of £1 per trip (regardless of single or return) which is
payable before starting the outward journey.
