Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Education transport

We can provide free transport for a child who is attending full time at their nearest or designated school and the home address is more than, two miles for primary aged pupils, or three miles for secondary aged pupils.
We will initially consider all applications against the criteria described above. If there are other circumstances that you wish to have taken into account you need to state these in detail on the back of the application form.

As a parent of a school aged pupil, you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school and for getting them to and from school.

When processing an application for assisted school transport, staff in the transport policy and management team will check the distance between the child's home address and school. This distance is measured by using the shortest safe pedestrian route between home and school.

A form to apply for assisted school transport is available from either the school or the transport policy and management team; please note the form must be signed by the headteacher before the application can be processed.

We consider safety on school transport a priority and a leaflet offering advice about safety on school transport is available upon request.
