Speed limits in the borough |
| Research shows that if vehicles are driven more slowly
they are less likely to be involved in a collision. Also, the
slower the speed the less severe any injuries will be if a
collision occurs. With this in mind, since becoming a Unitary
Authority in 1998 the Borough of Telford & Wrekin has been
reviewing local speed
limits. | |
The speed limit review has been carried out in four
distinct phases:
Phase 1 (completed) Roads within the main
urban ring road (but not including this ring road). This led to a
reduction in the speed limit on 13% of the roads covered by this
phase of the review.
Phase 2 (completed) Roads within the Local
Centres
Phase 3 (completed) Roads through rural
communities. A number of 30mph limits were introduced as a result
of this phase.
Phase 4 Urban Speed Review, covering the main
urban ring road. Subject to consultation, the results of this
review are being implemented throughout 2006 and 2007be implemented
from early 2006.
