Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Highways Development Control

The Highways Development Control Team is responsible for ensuring that all new development within the Borough meets the transport needs of the environment and economy.

The team monitors all new planning applications which are submitted to the Borough Council to ensure that highway related issues are considered fully.

Comments and recommendations are made to the Development & Design Unit either approving or opposing the granting of an application or asking for conditions to be attached to an approval.

The team also monitors the design and implementation of new road layouts for housing and industrial estates secured through the planning process. A legal agreement is entered into with the developer who wishes for the completed road layout to become a highway maintainable at the public expense.

We also respond to the highway related enquiries on the Local Land Charge Search. We can, if requested, supply information regarding the status of roads abutting a property, if a property is affected by any rights of way as shown on the Definitive Map and whether there are any road improvement or traffic schemes in the vicinity.
