Borough of Telford & Wrekin

Winter maintenance

Telford & Wrekin Council has a highway winter maintenance plan. This plan is intended to facilitate safe driving conditions in the Telford and Wrekin area during periods of extreme weather.

The winter maintenance plan includes salting a network of highway areas when widespread frost conditions are forecast or present. The network of highways areas is amended periodically in response to factors such as the alteration of bus routes.

Please note the Highways Agency is reponsible for the winter maintenance of motorways (including parts of the A5) in the Telford & Wrekin area.

The Council encourages drivers to always be aware that during such weather, hazardous driving conditions may still be encountered. These may be caused by short term, localised weather conditions and could include hazards such as localised icing (including 'black' ice), freezing fog, flash flooding or drifting snow.

The Council encourages all drivers to take extra care during periods of extreme weather and keep safer driving tips in mind.
