We are fortunate to have a rights of way network that provides
extensive opportunities for access for people with a wide range of
interests and abilities, both in the urban and the rural areas of
the Borough.
All aspects of the rights of way function are managed by the
Highways Development Control Team, and the contact details can be
used for any enquiries relating to: the definitive map; maintenance
and enforcement; public path orders; the Rights of Way Improvement
Plan; the Local Access Forum and promotion.
The Rights of Way Officers deal with a number of issues, of
which a number are detailed below:
Rights of Way - provides an introduction to
rights of way, and gives information on what a right of way is and
who can use them.
The Definitive Map - gives information on the
legal records that the Council holds relating to rights of way
Public Path Orders - provides information on
the legal process to alter the rights of way network.
Maintenance - details the Councils obligations
in respect of keeping the rights of way network in good order and
the measures that are being undertaken in the Borough to achieve
this.
Problems - deals with the process that the
Council should follow to resolve problems on public rights of
way.

The new Local Access Forum will be set up in
the New Year 2008.
The Rights of Way Improvement Plan - gives
information about the Councils statutory obligation to draft and
publish a Rights of Way Improvement
