What is a Work Travel
Plan?
We need to reduce the congestion and
pollution on our roads. It is widely agreed that present levels are
dangerous and unhealthy. Unless we, as individuals, do something
the situation will only get worse.
The journey to work is a major contributor to the problem. Its
cumulative effect can be significantly reduced by the application
of good practice in our personal transport choice.
At the same time we need to provide effective workplace travel
opportunities for those without access to a car.
A work travel action plan is a package of complimentary measures
designed to reduce car use for commuting and business travel and
encourage other forms of transport.
The aim is to provide a full range of travel information and ideas.
Each individual can select the most appropriate choice for the
journey to work and for business trips.
The approach recognises that the solution to travel problems is not
simply to be found by improving roads but more efficiently by
encouraging individuals to look beyond the car. This is
particularly effective for those who do not have access to a car or
who would refer not to operate one.
To facilitate the new processes a Work Travel Co-ordinator is based
at Telford & Wrekin Council, whose role is to assist local
companies in gaining maximum advantage for themselves and their
employees.
