Within Telford and Wrekin there are a large number of walking and cycling routes. Whether you wish to walk or cycle for leisure or to get to work or education, there are plenty of routes to get you where you want to go.
Cycle lanes and routes
Cycle Routes are principally indicated by signs and markings. They may be either on the carriageway, on footways either shared with or segregated from pedestrians, or specially designated cycle paths.
Copies of all the walking and cycle route maps are available from libraries, the new Visitor's Centre in Telford Town Park and the Arriva Travel Shop in Telford bus station. Maps are also available from cycle shops such as Bicycle Buzz in Donnington, Halfords at the Bridge Retail Park, Perry's Cycles in Wellington and Nova Cycles in Newport. Otherwise you can contact The Road Safety & Sustainable Transport team.
There is also a good series of maps produced by Sustrans (the sustainable transport organisation) which cover the whole country. Sustrans have developed National cycle routes (often using old railway beds) and there are three that run through Telford and Wrekin, namely routes 55, 81 and 45. Visit the Sustrans website to find out more. There is also a section on 'Telford to Ironbridge Gorge' that is well worth exploring.
Individual Cycle routes
If you are trying to find a good cycle route, e.g. from your home to your workplace, then try the Transport Direct website. It offers you three kinds of route: Quietest/Quickest/Most recreational. It is a great way to plan a day out on your bike.
If you would like to report a problem with a cycle path, please use the online form.
