Multicultural Development Team (MDT)

We are part of the Telford & Wrekin Consultancy & Advisory Services for Schools. We also serve Shropshire schools and provide training and support for a number of other educational providers.

MDT provides specialist English as an additional language (EAL) teaching and assessment, and bilingual TA support. It also provides training, support, guidance and resources for schools in:

  • working with pupils who have English as an additional language including those who are newly arrived from overseas
  • raising the attainment of minority ethnic pupils who are at risk of underachieving
  • tackling racism and promoting equality of opportunity for all pupils
  • the promotion of all pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

What we offer

Schools, Early Years settings and other providers are invited to purchase:

  • regular timetabled EAL teaching or bilingual Teaching Assistant support
  • EAL and bilingual assessments of pupils new to the UK school system or those whose progress is causing    concern
  • EAL teaching interventions
  • CPD/consultancy on EAL, equalities, diversity and SMSC
  • support with translation/interpretation where possible 
  • access to resources loan service
  • support with facilitating GCSEs in community languages
  • workshops and visits for pupils to promote cultural awareness and understanding
  • we also provide bespoke training for initial teacher training and teaching schools.
