Sutton Hill Children's Centre has been developed as part of the Surestart Jubilee Programme, part of Telford & Wrekin Council's support services to families with young children.
The building has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Telford & Wrekin Council, Surestart and Advantage West Midlands.
The new building became operational in October 2005 and is located on the footprint of the original site and provides:
high quality childcare - 42 place nursery operated by Sutton Hill Day nursery
Health Services including Midwifery
Parenting and family support services including a child minders network
training facilities for local parents
Central to the ethos of the Centre is its multi-agency links to local schools with shared staff, the voluntary and community sector, supporting organisations such as Homestart and learning providers including the Workers Education Association and Lifelong Learning.
The Children's Centre is an integral part of the regeneration of the centre of Sutton Hill and serves the needs of the local population of about 3000 people, of whom around 700 are under five years old
Additionally, the local Primary School, Community Centre, Medical Centre and Mental Health resource facility (MIND) are close by. These services offer local residents access to a wide range of services within a small radius.
Sutton Hill Children's Centre and the services based within are a clear demonstration of the commitment of Telford & Wrekin Council to provide services for families with young children through Children's Centres. Local children and their parents are being supported by dedicated staff working in accessible local bases which have improved the uptake of these services and the outcomes for families in the area.
