Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment

In February 2008, Telford & Wrekin Council commissioned a Level 2 Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) to refine and build upon the work undertaken during the Level 1 SFRA. View information about the Level 1 SFRA. The aim of the study is to improve the existing Flood Zone information for six watercourses in Telford and Wrekin, assess the flood hazard posed by these watercourses and assess the residual risk from partial blockage of selected culverts.

A number of policy recommendations are made for possible development sites, wherever possible based on the detailed hydraulic modelling results undertaken as part of the Level 2 SFRA. Download the Level 2 SFRA for more information about the assessment. Guidance for planning applications and potential developers required to produce site-specific Flood Risk Assessments, is also included.

The findings and recommendations of the SFRA will be crucial for landowners, developers and interested parties to understand the nature of flood risk for specific sites. Developers submitting planning applications in the Borough will need to be guided by the maps, recommendations and appendices to consider how to address the risk of flooding as part of specific development proposals.

The report is accompanied by a significant number of maps presenting the flood outlines, depth, velocity and hazard scenarios for the stretches of watercourse modelled in the SFRA. Due to the volume of these images, these are not currently available to download online. View this data online via the Arc GIS online web service. To discuss the availability of the map information or GIS source data for an FRA project, please contact the Development Plans team.
