Clinical waste

Clinical collections for residential householders

If you are a resident within the borough of Telford and Wrekin and you have additional waste due to a medical condition please contact us to discuss the options available to you to manage your waste or alternatively you can download the medical collection form for your healthcare provider to complete and return to us. Please note we do not provide clinical waste collections for businesses.

Important information regarding clinical waste forms

All forms need to be completed and signed by a medical care giver/professional. If you have difficulty leaving your home please ask the medical professional/care giver who is visiting the property to complete this for you, we can also arrange to email the form to your medical professional/caregiver to be completed. If you have any difficulties in completing the form, please contact us immediately so we can help to make interim arrangements for the collection of your waste.

What is Clinical waste?

Clinical waste is any waste that poses a threat of infection to humans, and has been assessed by a medical professional that it requires special collection and disposal arrangements (heat treatment).

Can I arrange a collection for my clinical waste?

Telford & Wrekin Council has a duty to protect the Health and Safety of its staff as well as that of its Contractors. To do this we require information on the nature of the wastes to be collected that result from health care provided in the home.

Parts of the form must be completed by a clinical professional (GP, Health visitor etc), if you have any difficulties with completing the form, please contact us immediately.

Download the form to request a new collection

How soon will my collection start?

Once we have received the completed and signed form, an officer will contact you to discuss the most suitable method of collection.

Items which are deemed as non hazardous can be placed inside your red top bin.

What about needles/syringes/sharps?

These must not be placed inside the red top bin, you will need to speak to your healthcare provider to confirm where they can be taken.

Missed collections

If you already receive a clinical collection and this has been missed, please use our online form to report this to us, we will request our contractors return.

Please ensure that all your clinical bag(s) are presented for 7am on your scheduled day of collection and the bag(s) are secured with the ties provided.
