The National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) for local highway and other transport improvements aims to reduce congestion at key locations, upgrade or improve maintenance of local highway assets in order to improve access to employment and housing and to develop economic and job creation opportunities.
Telford & Wrekin Council has received £695,000 from the fund for 2017-18. The funding will be spent on the following projects.
|Investment in technology including increased use of VMS||£200k||This project will contribute towards a better managed network by reducing congestion and improving journey times in order to support the local economy borough-wide. This will be achieved by upgrading and installing new variable message signs at key locations on our network.|
|Industrial Estates - Investment in Assets||£200k||This project aims to support Telford's main local employment areas and attract inward investment through systematic signing upgrades, lining improvements etc.|
|Major Scheme Development||£100k||Following identification of a number of major projects that need to be brought forward in coming years, this project will result in 'shovel-ready' schemes which will support future housing growth and job creation borough-wide|
|Road Marking Improvement Project||£195k||Through a rolling programme of marking upgrades across the borough this project will bring the economic benefits associated with improving safety on the network.|

A bid for nearly £4 million to improve travel and transport around Wellington was submitted to the National Productivity Investment Fund on 30 June 2017. The National Productivity Investment Fund was announced in the 2016 Autumn Statement. The Department for Transport asked local authorities to submits bids for funding to relieve congestion, upgrade local roads and public transport networks, unlock economic and job creation opportunities and enable the delivery of new housing developments.
