Equality Information Overview
As a public authority we utilise a vast range of information and data sources to influence our decision-making and to make sure we take our residents, visitors and employees needs into consideration.
It is the aim of these pages to show what information we use to make our decisions and how we use it.
An additional aim of providing this information is to identify actions that will have a positive impact on the lives of individuals over the medium term. To meet our duties under the Equality Act 2010 we are required to have at least one (or more) equality objectives.
Telford & Wrekin Council Equality Objective
The 2012 Department of Work and Pensions Report 'Social Justice: transforming lives' report focuses on providing the support and tools to help turn lives around and raise aspirations to increase social mobility. It identifies three areas as core to this challenge: 'worklessness', 'family' and education.
A low level of educational attainment is too often a barrier to people fulfilling their potential and improving their life chances. Within Telford & Wrekin there are two groups of pupils who do not overall, achieve the same level of educational attainment as their peers. These are pupils who receive Free School Meals and pupils of a British Pakistani background. Our equality objective is to halve this attainment gap by 2016 for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4. Examples - such as Cabinet reports, show how analysis has directly influenced a decision. These documents may also take the form of policy, or strategy documents.
Future Publishing - indications of the information that we intend to publish and how we will look to develop greater links with consultation.
