Cycling safety

Cycle safety tips

  • Having decided where to go you need to consider the needs of your party (steep inclines, special needs etc).
  • If you are cycling alone, let someone know where you are going and the route you will be taking.
  • Ensure your mobile phone is fully charged. Will there be a signal where you are going?
  • Always take a snack and a drink with you.
  • Consider taking some spares with you, particularly if you are going off road.  This should include
o Spare inner tube/puncture repair kit
      o Pump
      o Cycle spanner
  • Cycle lights front & back with spare batteries. Remember, lights are for poor visibility so not just for the dark. What about fog and rain for example?
  • Wear bright clothing such as high visibility vests or jackets.
  • Wear reflective material at night.
  • Don’t forget your bike lock.
  • Check your bike regularly and have it maintained to keep it in good condition.
