A parliamentary general election will take place on Thursday 8 June 2017.
During a general election, voters select one candidate to be their Member of Parliament (MP) and serve in the House of Commons for their constituency, in Telford and Wrekin we have two constituencies; Telford and The Wrekin. The candidate who gets the most votes becomes the MP for that constituency until the next election.

Thinking of standing as an MP?
We are holding a briefing session for prospective candidates and their agents on Friday 5 May 2017 at 3pm at Addenbrooke House.
The briefing will include an overview of the election process, including the timetable of events and nomination packs will be available to take away.
Anyone considering standing as a candidate in the Telford or The Wrekin constituencies is invited to attend.
Register to vote in this election
To vote at this election your name must appear on the register of electors.
If you are not registered or you have recently moved house or changed your personal details then you will need to register to vote.
In order to vote at the general election you must have registered before midnight on Monday 22 May 2017.
If you have already registered to vote you don't need to register again.
Voting by post or proxy
The deadline to apply for a postal vote for is 5pm on Tuesday 23 May 2017. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 31 May 2017. For more information and to apply for a postal vote or proxy vote please visit the GOV.UK website.
Telford & Wrekin Council will be counting the ballots cast in the Telford and The Wrekin constituency elections from 10pm on 8 June 2017 and it is anticipated that the results will be declared around 3am on Friday 9 June 2017.
