Update: Following the adoption of the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan on 11 January 2018, this planning document has now been superseded.
This document sets out the vision for the area it contains the strategic policies and proposals to deliver the vision together with housing and employment provisions.
2006 to 2016
The Core Strategy sets out the borough's 'spatial development strategy' (i.e. what development should take place and where) and planning policies to deliver this strategy.
The policies in the Core Strategy along with other relevant planning policies are used to assess building work that requires planning permission. Other Development Plan documents containing planning policies to assess building work include The Central Telford Area Action Plan and The Wrekin Local Plan.
The current document became active on 1 December 2007, when it was 'adopted' by Telford & Wrekin Council. This followed approval by the Secretary of State's Inspector and an assessment of its sustainability.
The Core Strategy covers the period up to 2016. For the period beyond 2016, Telford & Wrekin Council has prepared the new Local Plan which replaces the Core Strategy. The new Local Plan is called the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan.
