Changes to the Poisons Act 1972, Poisons Rules 1982, Poisons List 1982 etc.
Telford & Wrekin Council no longer licence retailers to sell Part 2 poisons. This is now dealt with by the Home Office.
Previously, retailers of substances on Part 2 of the Poisons List - such as high strength drain and oven cleaners - were required to register with their local authority and obtain a licence. As part of the drive to reduce red tape on business, this requirement for Part 2 Poisons has been abolished from 1 April 2015.
- Part 1 - Poisons may still only be sold to the general public by a registered pharmacist (chemist) who is required to keep a register.
- Part 2 - Poisons may only be sold to a customer holding a Home Office licence. The applicant themselves must obtain and hold a licence in advance of a purchase - rather than sign a poisons register.
