Two additional Parish Environmental Teams have been set up as part of the Pride in Your Community programme to enhance maintenance work that the Council already does to keep streets and open spaces in good condition. It means we now have a total of 9 Parish Environmental Teams in Telford and Wrekin.
Parish Environmental teams are another example of how Telford and Wrekin and its partners come together and work co-operatively to find new solutions for public services in the borough. Parish environmental teams provide an enhanced service over and above that provided by Telford & Wrekin Council's core contract.
They cover enhanced litter picking, leaf fall clearance, repairs to street furniture, conservation and improvements to landscaped areas, mowing, weeding, planting and cleaning.
The Council currently has six apprentices working with various Parish Environmental Teams around the borough. The apprenticeships are for 12 months via a secondment agreement with either TWS or direct with Parish Councils in the case of Hollinswood and Randlay or Stirchley and Brookside.
They undergo training which is a mix of classroom and vocational training which is delivered by local training provider TCAT, with the apprentices completing a qualification in Environment and Cleansing.
The Council has launched its plan to tackle youth unemployment and has committed to increasing the number of apprenticeships it offers.
