For 2 years, from April 2014 until the end of March 2016 nearly £8m was invested across the borough to deliver a wide range of environmental, highway and social improvements with a specific focus on areas of greatest need. The programme involved working closely with residents, local community groups and ward members to understand local priorities and resolve issues within their communities.
This included increasing local employment through training and apprenticeship opportunities, resolving untidy land, provision of dedicated environmental improvement teams and a part funded Parish Environmental Team offer to Town and Parish Councils to provide additional cleansing and grounds services in the local area. Over 500 projects were delivered across the borough.
In addition to this, the ward co-operative fund budget was doubled for each ward Councillor who had £2,000 to spend on projects to enhance their local area.
