Last year, we faced our most difficult budget ever and set our plans for cuts and council tax to 2018.
We also asked our community for help with running services we can no longer afford - and received a very positive response.
Now, a year later, we have community-run libraries (and none have been closed), community-run markets, community and children's centres that are run by community groups - all of which seemed highly unlikely a year ago.
We have now finished consulting residents on our budget plans to take us up to 2019/2020.
Our proposals aim to help residents become healthier, feel safer and develop more skills to get better jobs.
We also want to help make Telford and Wrekin cleaner, more prosperous and to continue to develop excellent transport links and good roads.
We want to do this despite continuing government cuts - we have already saved £96m from our budget since 2010 and must find a further £25-30m by 2020.
The cuts we have to make will be in ways that protect frontline services as far as possible and in as compassionate a way as possible.
Despite the ongoing cuts, we are planning some one off investments into services and infrastructure to help make Telford and Wrekin a better place to live and work or for businesses to invest in.
Council Tax Question
Our budget consultation has now closed. The survey asked residents whether the Council should apply the option the Government has given councils to introduce its assumed adult social care precept more quickly.
The Council had planned to apply this 2% increase each year over the next three years together with a 1.2% increase for other services.
However, the Government have allowed us to apply the full adult social care precept in just two years instead of three.
The Service and Financial Planning report describes the choice in greater detail. A full report including analysis of the consultation outcomes is now published ahead of Cabinet, 23 February 2017.
