Help at home

There are different ways in which you can receive support to help you to live in your home independently. You can contact us to find out if you are eligible for a community care assessment. You can also use this online form.

People often benefit from some support after an illness, an injury or any other change in circumstances. It can be particularly helpful for people who would otherwise need to go into hospital. It involves training to help you improve your abilities and care to help you recover, rather than just care to look after you. This can last from a few days and sometimes can continue for up to six weeks. Some of these services will be free. Most people need only a few weeks' help. This usually takes place in your home but can be in a residential or nursing home.

Making sure you reduce the risk of falling is a good way to prevent any injuries or illness.

There is a scheme called Message in a bottle which could help you in case of an emergency. We also provide you with useful information that can help you to avoid falling and injuring yourself.

It may be helpful to have some equipment or some small adaptations made to your home to ensure you are able to live as independently as possible.

You may also benefit from having a meal delivered to your home or some help around the house or with your shopping. There are also other organisations that can help you with this sort of support.

To find out more about these services you can read our enablement factsheet
