Municipal waste management
About 88,000 tonnes of waste is collected annually in the borough of Telford & Wrekin. This involves 68,000 waste collections every week.
We aim to recycle and compost a minimum of 45% of household waste by 2015.
We provide alternate weekly collections of rubbish, recycling and garden waste and this includes:
- Collection and disposal of household waste;
- Collection of recycling, paper, glass, cans, plastic, cardboard, greetings cards, shredded paper,batteries and low energy bulbs;
- Collection of garden waste.
We also provide three community recycling centres at:
The council has a strategy for dealing with the household waste that is generated in the borough. The Waste Management Strategy 2005 to 2021 from Waste to Resource aims to ensure we continue to reduce waste and increase recycling.
It also looks at other methods of disposing of waste we can't recycle to help save natural resources and reduce the impact it has on the environment.
In June of this year the Govenment issued its review of Waste policy in England which set out its implementation plan for waste policies.
