ican2 short breaks

ican2

What is ican2?

ican2 is the umbrella term for the Short Breaks programme for children and young people with disabilities and/or additional needs who live in Telford and Wrekin.

ican2 Short Break services use the wide definition of disability as found in the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. The Act defines a disabled person as a person with ‘a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities’.

Short breaks

Short breaks provide invaluable support for disabled children, young people and their families. While children are given opportunities to become more independent, have fun, enjoy new experiences, form friendships with their peers; their families are able to take time out to recharge their batteries.

This can include daytime, evening, weekend and overnight activities. They can take place in the child's own home, a family based setting, a residential, educational or community setting, or in their local environment.

Activities

Getting active and keeping fit is a great habit for children to develop. Our after school activities and clubs allow your children to make friends, develop their social skills, and most importantly have lots of fun!
