Future plans for old Woodlands Primary site

Published on 01 February 2012

Starting from Wednesday 8 February, there will be an opportunity for residents to learn about future plans to develop the former Woodlands Primary School site in Woodside.

Woodlands Primary School relocated to its new building on the 9 January as part of the Abraham Darby Learning Community development. Now staff and pupils have moved to their new school, leaving the old site available for development.

The proposals include an extension to the link road on Park Lane to create a new high street frontage development, improvements to local play facilities and upgrades on William Reynolds' playing field. If approved the proposals would also see a safer pedestrian route for both pupil's and residents to improve access the new facilities at the Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community.

Consultation will run until Friday 17 February with exhibition boards on show and a questionnaires available at the Park Lane Centre, Woodside. Information will also be available for viewing at Madeley Parish Council. Comments and objections during this period can also be made by emailing estates&investments@telford.gov.uk

Cllr Richard Overton, Deputy Leader for Telford & Wrekin Council with special responsibilities for Borough Towns Development and Policy, said: "Woodside is an area that is really up and coming. We have the Park Lane Multi-use Centre, new street frontages, and now the Abraham Darby Learning Community which is less than a stones throw away.

"This development will not only see more investment to the local area, it will also improve access routes to the new state-of the art facilities at the Abraham Darby Learning Community; something which residents have been telling us needs putting in place.

After the consultation period that will end on Friday 17 February, an outline planning application will be submitted in spring. Residents will have a further opportunity to log their comments and objections once the application has been submitted, by contacting Telford & Wrekin Council's Planning Team."
