Step Up 2

Published on 08 January 2013

Step Up 2 is community theatre project looking to recruit 36 people from Telford and Wrekin who would like to create a performance at Oakengates Theatre to be shown on 3 May 2013.

This project between Telford & Wrekin Council's Community Learning team and the Creative Development  is open to residents, over 18 years of age, who are currently out of work or looking to improve their job opportunities through taking part in a creative and skill building opportunity.

Richard Hull, a professional Community Theatre Director who has been contracted to lead on the delivery of the project said: "The project will introduce people to the different jobs within the theatre industry, as well as help to develop the skills needed for such positions - but more importantly it assists and promotes the development of essential life skills - guiding applicants in improving their self-confidence, public-speaking skills, working as part of a team, individual and group creativity - all part of day-to-day life and employment. We are not here purely to try to create actors - we are help to develop people's confidence and skills."

Taster sessions are being held soon so why not book a place to see if this is for you.

They are taking place on 28 February and 7 March 2013 at Sutton Hill Community Centre from 10 - 12noon and the same days at Donnington Lifelong Learning Centre between 1pm and 3pm.

These  practical workshops will be relaxed, aiming to introduce people to the project team and idea of a performance so that they can make a choice about committing to the wider project and performance which will mean a once a week, day-long workshop to create a piece of theatre of their own.

Cllr Arnold England, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Well-being, said: "We are looking to create a unique theatre piece and we need you to make it happen. Whether you prefer to be on the stage, or behind the scenes, if you are over 18 there is a part for you to play. Visit one of the workshops and make 2013 your year!"

If you would like to get involved then visit the free workshops on 28 February and 7 March 2013 or to book your place now call 01952 382365.

There is a £10 ASDA voucher for taking part on both days.
