Strategic Housing

We produce a number of strategies and policies which guide how housing services are provided. Strategies help us plan for the housing needs of everybody in the Borough. Policies determine how we implement the strategies. Codes of guidance are issued by Government and we must take them into account when producing our strategies and policies.

The Housing Strategy covers both privately owned and rented property. It measures the age and condition of the housing stock, looks at how well it is selling and how many are empty. We also work out what type of housing is needed both now and in the future.

In addition to the over-arching Housing Strategy, the Council has also developed a number of sub-strategies dealing with specific parts of the housing service, such as homelessness or supporting people.
