Putting People First in Telford and Wrekin
About the Putting People First programme
Putting People First in Telford and Wrekin is a programme to transform the way social care services are provided. It will shape adult social care and related services over the next 10 years or more, through a strong focus on personal choice and control for local people.
Please see our informative newsletters for how Telford & Wrekin Council are taking this forward.
The Government, in its Putting People First document, has set out some of the biggest challenges and changes for social care since the introduction of the 1990 NHS and Community Care Act. Telford & Wrekin Council, together with others involved locally, is working on plans to ensure the changes are tailored for the benefit of our own unique community. In October of last year the Government introduced some specific guidelines around when it expects certain aspects of the programme to be implemented.

Any one of us, or one of our relatives or friends, will access social care services now or in the future. The changes we are aiming to make through the Putting People First programme will shape social care and make improvements for all of us. We want to start tailoring services around the person, not make people fit into what services are available or deemed fit for them by somebody else. People want to be treated as individuals.
The main aim is to help people remain independent for as long as possible and give them control over any services they do choose, including funding from the Council for their care or support. As well as better information and easy access to the services that suit the individual and their personal care requirements.
