Street naming and numbering
Street name plates
Telford & Wrekin Council have a statutory duty to name and sign streets in the Telford and Wrekin area, ensuring that street name plates are provided and fitted in suitable positions.
It has become increasingly important as we travel further from our local area that we can find where we are and where we want to go quickly and efficiently. Most importantly it is vital in the event of an urgent situation that you and your street can be located quickly by the emergency services.
New street nameplates are provided in a number of ways. We have a small budget to replace damaged or illegible signs and to provide new signs for streets without street nameplates. A typical new street nameplate can cost £200 to £250.
Our Highways Maintenance team is responsible for the repair and maintenance of street name plates which becomes necessary either due to accidental damage, vandalism or normal wear and tear.
In the case of a new development however, the developer is required to provide street name plates to our standards and are also responsible for the erection of name plates to our specification. We also maintain a list for new signs, which are provided as funds permit.
To report damaged, missing or illegible street name plates within the Telford and Wrekin area please complete our online form or contact the Highways Maintenance team by email firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone 01952 384000.
