What is SACRE?
SACRE is an organisation made up of people who have a keen interest in making sure that the very best Religious Education (RE) is delivered in primary and secondary schools throughout the borough. Our members are current teachers of RE, teaching union representatives, members of secular and non-secular organisations, and representatives from the local authority. The remit for SACREs across the country is clearly laid down in legislation.
We have an amazing collection of teachers in Telford and Wrekin, delivering a very challenging subject. The aim of Telford and Wrekin SACRE is to ensure these teachers get the very best support they deserve. Telford and Wrekin SACRE is responsible for providing an agreed syllabus for the authority that provides aa broad and balanced view of beliefs and offers the students of Telford and Wrekin the best preparation for their GCSEs and A Levels. RE is not part of the national curriculum and therefore it is up to Telford and Wrekin SACRE to provide support and guidance for both primary and secondary schools. RE remains a statutory subject in state schools for students up to the age of 18. It is also the responsibility of Telford and Wrekin SACRE to support collective worship in our borough schools. One of the new OFSTED framework's key areas of inspection is the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of students, something at the very heart of the ethos of Telford and Wrekin SACRE.
