About the grant scheme
“Green Spaces are Go” is a grant scheme funded by Telford & Wrekin Council.
The grant is being offered to local organisations as a one off monetary award, to help residents of Telford and Wrekin to be more active within any of Telford & Wrekin Council’s green open spaces.
Who can apply?
Any not-for-profit organisation is invited to apply, including community groups and centres, clubs, societies, local schools, ‘Friends Of’ groups linked to green spaces, sport or athletic clubs, and uniformed groups such as Brownies, Guides and Scouts.
What is the funding for?
The funding is for organisations to provide opportunities for local people to take part in any sport, exercise or physical activity in any of the Council’s parks, nature reserves and green spaces.
This can include traditional sporting events and activities, fitness activities, dancing, running, martial arts, cycling, walking or ‘floor based’ exercise – any activity that gets people moving more and be more active.
The grant can also fund:
- ‘on the ground’ improvements, such as a new bench to create or expand a ‘bench-to-bench’ walk, improved signage promoting green routes, or new way markers or posts to encourage people to follow a walking or running trail
- promotional materials, such as a new leaflet illustrating a walking route with information on terrain, distances and things to see, or the use of technology to encourage people to move more like an ‘app’ or website
- equipment such as items to help running, walking or cycling groups to cater for more people or hold more activity sessions throughout the year
- training for local residents to help to build capacity through developing local leaders and networks in any physical activity

What we would like to fund
We would be particularly keen to fund projects which target currently under represented groups in our green spaces, such as children and young people, older people, people with disabilities, people from deprived areas and from our ethnically diverse communities.
In summary, the Green Space Are Go scheme aims to:
- support local organisations to enable, motivate and engage local people in any exercise, sport and physical activity within any of Telford & Wrekin Council owned green open spaces
- support a new or existing physical activity, or taster/start up session or programme of sessions, in particular those that build people’s confidence and ability to participate in more regular activity, within any of Telford & Wrekin Council owned green open spaces,
- help to build capacity through developing local physical activity leaders and networks
- sustain ongoing physical activity sessions.
