National Volunteers Week is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.
The Council runs a promotional campaign on this every year to thank our amazing volunteers and to showcase their fantastic efforts. This year more than ever we want to recognise this. As well as our established volunteers – our Street Champions, Health Champions, Snow Wardens, Feed the Birds volunteers, to name just a few, we also have had a fantastic response to our call for volunteers to help us during the recent floods, the visit from the Knife Angel and the current coronavirus outbreak.
Our volunteers are being amazing now, but they have always been amazing. Capturing the community spirit and the impact it has is really important.
With travel and distancing rules in place, we are restricted in what we can do this year, but we can still ‘say thanks’ and celebrate volunteers for all the great things they are doing via social media, and our other communication channels.
Each year the organisers launch a particular theme, but they have not done so for 2020. On that basis we have decided that given our amazing community support this year we should focus on thanking everyone. So our theme is ‘A time to say thank you’.
