What is there to see and do in Telford?
Telford includes six historical towns. At the heart of the beautiful market town of Ironbridge, spanning the banks of the River Severn, you will find the world’s first bridge constructed of iron, now the internationally recognised symbol of the Industrial Revolution.
Along with iconic monuments across the world such as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China, our spectacular Ironbridge Gorge has been classified as a World Heritage Site since 1986. For more information on local attractions visit the Discover Telford website.
These days heavy industry is not as prominent in the town, the mines are closed and the ironworks silent, but many of the historic buildings remain as a testimony to our town’s industrial past. Set amongst a backdrop of the rolling Shropshire hills, Telford residents also enjoy walking, cycling and a range of outdoor pursuits. Those living in Telford have the best of both worlds: surrounded by beautiful scenery such as the Wrekin Hill and the River Severn. Residents can take time to unwind or choose to enjoy a faster pace of life in Central Telford. At the heart of our town is Southwater, where residents and visitors can enjoy town centre living with views over the park alongside new leisure facilities that include:
- Telford Cinema - an 11 screen iMax Cineworld cinema
- Telford Ice Rink - an international sized ice rink with ice hockey team, Telford Tigers
- Telford Town Park - high ropes course
- Telford Town Park - mini adventure golf
- Southwater Restaurants - including names such as Bella Italia, Nandos, Pizza Express, Wildwood and TGI Fridays
- Southwater Library - interactive media centre and Southwater library
- Telford International Centre - a 1.6 million sq ft conference and events venue
- Telford Soft Play - soft play facilities
- Mecca Bingo

Next door to Southwater over 750,000 visitors per year flock to Telford Town Park. A beautiful 400 acre park (one of the largest in the UK) including rose gardens, band stand, lakes, visitor centre, play facilities, geo-caching facilities and an arena that attracts events including national music tours. Telford Shopping Centre, a retail centre of 1 million sq ft that can also be found adjacent to Southwater and Telford Town Park.
The centre is currently undergoing a £200 million refurbishment that will see an extension, adding to the existing big name high-street brands such as House of Fraser, Topshop, Zara and Debenhams to name but a few.
