What is Neighbourhood Planning?
Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. The Localism Act (2011) introduced new provisions where parish and town councils from across Telford & Wrekin can prepare either:
a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) which set planning policies for the development and use of land in an area and forms part of the development plan (along with the Telford & Wrekin local plan) used in determining planning applications, or
a Neighbourhood Development Orders (NDO) which enables communities to grant planning permission for new buildings they want to see go ahead. An Order will allow specific development to be built without having to apply for separate planning permission.
Neighbourhood planning in Telford & Wrekin
Neighbourhood Development plans can shape, direct and help to deliver sustainable development, by influencing local planning decisions as part of the development plan for Telford & Wrekin. Neighbourhood Development plans should not promote less development than set out in the Telford & Wrekin Local Plan or undermine its strategic policies.
Neighbourhood planning is not a legal requirement but an optional right which communities can choose to use.
