My Options - COVID-19 service updates

My Options logo

Our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of the people who access our services and our staff.

During these unprecedented times we have had to review our services to meet Government guidelines. This has included the suspension of our Day Activity Services at Lakewood Wellbeing Centre, Wellington, Southwood Activity Hub in Hollinswood and the Skills and Enterprise Hub in Horsehay.

We, like other care and support providers, are now entering the next phase, where we need to consider and plan new ways of working to meet the strict COVID-19 Government guidance around social distancing and health and safety means our access to buildings, transport and community facilities. At this time, this means that we will not be possible to offer the same type of service that has previously been provided in our day activity buildings.

What are we doing now?

Building on the success of our virtual activities, we are launching a co-ordinated programme of exciting activities for people to get involved in. These will focus on developing skills in using technology safely, independent living skills, looking after yourself, getting active, getting creative, connecting with friends and local communities and Stepping into Work.

For those people who require direct support we are looking at how we can provide this to people in their own homes and communities, and where safe to do so linking friends who live local to each other, to keep connected and get involved.

We are working closely with our Health and Safety advisors and Public Health England to implement all Government guidance in relation to building based day activity services and what we can provide, ensuring the safety of people using the service and our staff. This is without doubt a challenge, and any building based provision will be very different. The things we need to put in place are extensive and will mean the numbers we can accommodate within buildings under the current Government guidance will be extremely limited and therefore will be prioritised for those people with the highest level of need.

As we continue to consider and develop our plans and how we can provide services differently and safely in line with current Government guidance we want to hear from everyone connected to the services. Please view the information below to find out how to get involved.

You will shortly, or may have already been, contacted by a member of our new Learning Disability Social Work Team who are undertaking reviews for those people who attended My Options Day Activity Services before the Covid period.

This is an opportunity to discuss what people have been doing during the lockdown period, what they want to do now, what they aspire to do in the future, and what support they need to achieve this.

This will also be an opportunity for family carers to share their thoughts and comments about the current situation and the future.

Statement regarding the Summer Playscheme 2020

You will be aware that community activities continue to have significant restrictions on how or whether they can operate. This is with regard to Government guidance regarding the Coronavirus pandemic.

Telford & Wrekin Council will continue to work with families who have significant support needs through their allocated Case Workers or Social Workers. We know that families understand that the Government guidelines and advice remains in place about minimising contacts and social distancing, all of which can be challenging. We remain committed to supporting children and families. We thank families for their continued understanding of the complexities and that provisions have to be based on a social care needs led risk assessment.

Telford & Wrekin Council will not be able to offer the usual playscheme at either The Bridge School or The Willow Tree over the summer holiday period, due to the current restrictions.

There will be a ‘stay and play’ provision, but this will be for a small number of children and young people based on social care needs. The places are limited due to the implementation of the Government guidance.

Case Workers and Social Workers will be contacting families who have been allocated a place.

Telford & Wrekin Council understands that many families may find the summer holiday period challenging. If you find yourself in this position please contact your allocated worker from the Children with Disabilities team. If you do not have an allocated worker contact Family Connect on 01952 385385.
