Telford & Wrekin Building Control team delivers award winning support

Construction projects in Telford delivered in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council have scooped plaudits at a glittering awards ceremony celebrating building excellence.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Building Control team worked closely with architects, construction companies, sub-contractors, and housing associations on a number of schemes recognised in the Midlands final of the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Regional Building Excellence Awards 2017.

The team nominated six development schemes and two builders for the awards, the largest business-to-business awards in the building control sector, which were held at Telford International Centre in June.

A residential home extension in Leese Close, Telford, was highly commended in the Best Extension or Alteration category and the Oakwood Extra Care Facility in Wellington received the same accolade in the Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development.
Dave Franklin, from McPhillips in Wellington, was the winner of the Residential Site Agent of the Year award and went forward to the London national final in November 2017.

Joe Strafford, Building Control Team Manager, from Telford & Wrekin Council which provides a one-stop-shop for developers looking to complete projects in the borough, said: “We worked in close partnership with the teams to ensure each project involved was delivered to the highest standard and met all the relevant planning and building regulations.

Paul Everall, Chief Executive of LABC, said: “Our Building Excellence Awards are an opportunity for the industry to celebrate good practice. Our winners demonstrate how positive working relationships with local authority building control teams achieves high quality, sustainable buildings. Our awards are unique because they recognise how this cooperation improves building standards and professionalism across the industry.”

Telford & Wrekin Council Building Control team are now delivering on projects such as new industrial units, numerous housing schemes, working with, Wrekin Housing Trust, Lovells and NuPlace, in addition to a number of shops and of improvements to Telford Town Centre.
