Project details

In November of 2021 a project was completed to improve drainage and reduce standing water on the surface of the path at Stoney Hill to a level acceptable for safe and reasonable access for both users and local residents. Additionally, delivery of the project has ensured that residents’ properties are not adversely affected by the water backing up from the right of way onto their land.

Community involvement

The route is a byway open to all traffic providing public access to all categories of user. As well as being an important strategic route in the rights of way network, it also provides access to properties from the adjoining highway. The project was initiated following concerns raised by the local Parish Council, local residents, and users. The site was assessed by the Rights of Way Team, and the construction phase of the project was delivered by the Council’s Contractor, AJB Contracting Ltd.

Project funding

Funding allocated by the Council for rights of way improvements paid for the £4,000 cost of improving and installing the drainage. The existing gully was dug out and replaced with improved catchment for excess waterfall, and additionally new French Drains were installed to displace the water from the surface of the right of way.

Testimonials/comments

Our Senior Rights of Way Officer commented that, “The improvement works have ensured that access along an important, strategic right of way has been improved, also providing the opportunity to carry out surface improvements to the right of way in the future.”
