Assistant instructor scheme

Overview

Every year the Centre offers a twelve month placement, to young people wanting to enter the outdoor industry. This will be of interest to people in the 20-25 age bracket, who have prior experience in outdoor education, and can demonstrate a high level of commitment and motivation for working in this field.

Competition for places on the scheme is high, but if you are a person with energy, enthusiasm and a passion for the outdoors, we'd like to hear from you.

Typically Assistant Instructors are people who have finished college or university courses, who are looking to build on their practical experience.

During the year, Assistant Instructors will gain a huge amount of experience of working in a very successful and popular outdoor education centre, and will further their experience and qualifications in outdoor adventure leadership. They will work alongside our highly qualified, professional staff, structure their responsibility with the group according to their development needs.

We will provide the opportunity for you to attend courses, where relevant, and dependent upon your experience. This could be:

  • SPA Training and/or Assessment
  • BCU Star Awards 1-3
  • UKCC Level 1 Coach
  • ML Summer Training and/or Assessment
  • Mountain First Aid

Arthog will provide full board and lodging, and pay you £50 per week, in return for assistance in the running of the Centre.
