The existing landscape and open space related planning policies that apply in Telford and Wrekin are set out within the Core Strategy, Wrekin Local Plan and Central Telford Area Action Plan. These policies include the designation of land as Green Network in Telford, Green Space in Central Telford and Open Space in Newport.
These local planning policies are supported by the following evidential documents.
Local Green Infrastructure Needs Study
This is a study of how the existing supply of green infrastructure in Telford and Wrekin currently meets local needs. It considers the full range of green infrastructure functions (not just recreational needs). This study replaces the previous Open Space, Sports and Recreation Facilities Study.
Landscape Sensitivity and Capacity Study
This is a study of Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment sites at edges of Telford, Newport, High Ercall, Tibberton and Waters Upton (the settlements identified as suitable for development in the adopted Core Strategy). These sites have been assessed in terms of the sensitivity of the landscape to development and the potential capacity of the sites for housing development.
Green Network Guidance Document
This study was published in 2002 to provide the background information about the Green Network and supplementary information to guide decisions made by planners, designers and land managers.
Green Network Nature Conservation Assessment
This study was prepared to identify the key ecological sites and linkages within the Green Network. This evidential study was undertaken as part of the original designation of the Green Network within the Telford Local Plan in 1993.
