Child Friendly Telford and Wrekin
Growing up happy, healthy and full of opportunity
Every child deserves the chance to dream big, feel supported and enjoy childhood.
That's why we're working towards making Telford and Wrekin a child friendly Borough - a place where children and young people are valued, listened to and given every opportunity to succeed.
We want every child to feel they belong, have people they can trust and know their voice matters.
What is a child friendly borough?
A child friendly borough is a place that puts children and young people at the centre of everything it does. From parks and activities to support services and local decisions, we want young people's ideas, experiences and ambitions to help shape the future of our Borough.
It's about creating a community where children can flourish, families feel supported and young people are empowered to reach their full potential.
Our seven wishes
Children and young people have shared what is important to them.
Their views have helped shape our seven wishes for all children and young people:
- i am healthy
- i am heard
- i am safe
- i am achieving
- i am independent
- i have friends and people I trust
- i am happy.
These wishes are at the heart of everything we do.
These are more than wishes - they're the building blocks of a great future for every child and young person in our Borough.
Supporting children and young people every day
There are already lots of brilliant opportunities and services helping children and families across Telford and Wrekin, including:
- 5 by 5, helping children get the best start before they begin school
- 10 by 10, encouraging children to try exciting experiences and build confidence
- youth offer, connecting young people with activities, support and safe places to spend time
- free swimming opportunities to help children stay active and healthy
- family hubs, providing advice, support and activities for families
- Urban Games, offering free sports and physical activities
- Crucial Crew, helping year six pupils learn important life skills and stay safe
- grants and programmes that support education, employment and training opportunities for young people.
Voice shapes our future
The child friendly journey has been inspired by children and young people, and their involvement doesn't stop here.
We're committed to listening, learning and working alongside young people to make sure their ideas and experiences help shape decisions that affect their lives. Whether it's through schools, youth groups, forums or local projects, we want every child to have the chance to be heard.
Be part of it
Creating a child friendly Telford and Wrekin is something we can all do together.
Children, young people, parents, carers, schools, businesses, community groups and local organisations all have a role to play. By supporting young people, celebrating their achievements and listening to their views, we can build a Borough where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Did you know?
The child friendly vision has been shaped by feedback from children and young people across Telford and Wrekin. Through schools, youth groups, consultations and community activities, they have told us what matters most to them - and we're listening.
Together, we're building a Borough where every child feels safe, valued, included and excited about their future.
