Children's social care recruitment

Here at Telford & Wrekin Council’s Children’s Services we are committed to working together to deliver rewarding careers for our staff as well as positive outcomes for the children and families we work with.

Favouring a relational approach in all that we do, over 80% of our workforce are permanent employees, caseloads are manageable and staff wellbeing is an absolute priority for the Council.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join us: alongside making a difference to the lives of individuals and families, we have adopted exciting new strengths-based approaches including the Family Safeguarding Model through the DfE’s Strengthening Families, Protecting Children Programme. Download a leaflet about the model.

Working collaboratively with families to keep them together, where it is safe to do so, is at the heart of Family Safeguarding and our approach is underpinned by Motivational Interviewing (MI).  This ensures families, children and young people feel empowered, enabling parents to make the positive changes needed, to achieve improved outcomes for their children and their own wellbeing. Therefore, parents are motivated to identify the changes needed within their own families which results in them achieving better outcomes for children.

We have been on a continuous journey of transformation and innovation and in our 2020 Ofsted Inspection we were judged to be Outstanding; the only Authority in the West Midlands with this judgement. Here’s just some of the great things Ofsted had to say when they visited us:

  • Children are cared for and cared about
  • Senior Leaders aspire to a service for every child that they would welcome for their own
  • Social workers and other staff who support children are very committed, and they are exceptionally well trained.
  • Social workers and other support staff are valued and invested in as the most precious resource for vulnerable children and families.
  • Staff value the co-productive management approach to problem-solving and professional autonomy within a practice structure supported by a clear practice model.

We are looking for the passionate, experienced, innovative and committed people to join us. In doing so, you will join an enthusiastic and vibrant team of social workers and other professionals who are outcomes focused and who operate with a strong team ethos. If you share our passion for making a difference, we would be delighted if you joined us. For more information, you can reach us at csrecruitment@telford.gov.uk.
