Arthog

We offer exciting outdoor education and experiences to our residents, in a sustainable way. Our trained staff support participants to enjoy a range of rich outdoor learning environments and activities, within Telford and Wrekin and further afield.

These include:

  • Arthog Wales
    A residential centre on the coast near Barmouth, giving groups access to amazing activities away from home, enabling personal and social development in natural environments.
     
  • Arthog Outreach
    A non-residential centre in Telford offering a range of adventurous activities on-site and just a short distance away.
     
  • Outdoor Education Advisory Service
    A support service helping local school with their educational visits. The service provides professional support, guidance, advice and training for schools to run and manage school activities and visits effectively.
 

Environmental health

We carry out food hygiene inspections throughout the borough as well as giving out the food hygiene ratings. 

We also deal with:

  • food complaint investigations
  • food sampling visits
  • health and safety complaints and inspections
  • accident investigations
  • private water supply sampling and enforcement
  • infectious disease investigations including food poisoning outbreaks
  • food standards inspections
  • and complaint investigations. 

Along with food safety, we also deal with air quality and investigate noise, odour, light, dust pollution, bonfire and rubbish complaints from domestic, commercial and industrial premises as well as carrying out permitted processes inspections, houses in multiple occupation (HMO) inspections and dealing with housing disrepair complaints.

 

Telford Fostering

Telford Fostering recruit, train, and support foster carers to provide local homes for children with Telford & Wrekin Council.

We have a large community of foster carers who are making an amazing difference in children’s lives, and their own too.

We need more families, with a spare bedroom and a loving heart, who can offer part-time or full-time care to young children, teenagers, brothers and sisters, or children with a disability for a short-term or longer time. 

We offer generous financial payments per child, extensive wraparound support and excellent training and development. Ofsted rates our services to be Outstanding.

 

Telford & Wrekin Council Training Services

We deliver a range of training, both inside the council and for external companies and groups.

From emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to specific defibrillator or anaphylaxis management courses, we’ve to first aid training to meet individual or employer needs. We also provide internationally recognised lifeguarding qualifications.

 

Telford & Wrekin Leisure Services

We offer a range of roles in leisure services including casual lifeguarding roles, along with the opportunity to join our swim for life teaching team with fully funded Level 1 and 2 training courses.

 

Shared lives and supported lodgings

There are many reasons to become a carer. It’s incredibly rewarding watching someone you care for grow in confidence, try new things and be happy in a safe and loving home. As a carer, you could support someone in your own home, on a daily, short- or long-term basis, and work while remaining at home.

    Development Management ensures well planned, safe, sustainable growth by protecting key areas of importance and securing vital infrastructure to create vibrant, thriving communities.

    Regeneration and Investment drives transformation, managing council-owned properties and land. Leading regeneration projects which bring new opportunities to the borough.
     
  • BiT (Built in Telford)
    BiT delivers expert architectural design and project management to shape inspiring spaces.
     
  • In-House Maintenance Services
    In-House Maintenance Services keep schools and council buildings in safe and efficient condition and deliver Disabled Facilities Grants for accessibility.
     
  • Housing Investment Programme
    Housing Investment Programme delivers high-quality homes through NuPlace, supporting private, affordable, and specialist housing to meet the diverse needs of our community.
 

Community services - volunteering

The Community Services team has a key role in supporting communities across Telford and Wrekin. We work with individuals, voluntary and community sector organisations, social enterprises, parish and town councils and businesses. 

The support we provide includes:

  • capacity building
  • help with community projects
  • managing a number of community grant schemes
  • and volunteering.

Active travel and road safety

The Active Travel and Road Safety team develop and deliver a wide range of education and training programmes aiming to increase road safety awareness and reduce the number of collisions on our road network alongside promoting active travel for everyday journeys. The team work with a wide range of vulnerable road user groups including early years, primary and secondary school children, young adults and younger and older drivers.

Our Road Safety Officers have a wealth of experience and deliver informative and interactive programmes. The team also run Telford Bike Hub in the Town Park and offer a variety of sessions from learn to ride training for children and adults, Bikeability training and adaptive cycle sessions.

 

Neighbourhood and enforcement services

Neighbourhood and enforcement services is made up of a range of teams all helping to keep our borough safe.

  • Anti- Social Behaviour team
    Our Anti- Social Behaviour team work in partnership with Police, housing associations, and other partners to tackle antisocial behaviour and implement actions and plans to manage, tackle and reduce issues and incidents.
     
  • Security and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) team
    Our Security and CCTV team patrol Southwater, Telford Town Park and surrounding areas, including the Southwater multi-storey car park. The team uses the Council’s extensive CCTV system as part of their daily duties and also provides security for a wide range of events across the borough.
     
  • Environmental Protection team
    Our Environmental Protection team are all qualified Environmental Health Officers, who investigate a wide range of statutory nuisances, from pest, smoke, and noise to waste.
     
  • Neighbourhood Enforcement team
    Our Neighbourhood Enforcement team investigates a wide range of environmental crimes, from:
    • civil parking enforcement
    • dog fouling
    • litter
    • abandoned vehicles
    • fly tipping
    • fly posting
    • damage and disturbance
    • and encroachment of the highway.
