About the Armed Forces Covenant

Telford & Wrekin Council is working with the armed forces to help and support current and former service personnel and their families in the local area.

We are also encouraging local businesses, community groups and individuals to pledge their support to armed forces personnel and their families, as well as reservists and veterans.

Our Armed Forces Covenant recognises "the value serving personnel, both regular and reservist, veterans and military families, contribute to our business and our country".

The key principles of the covenant are that:

  • no member of the armed forces community should face disadvantage when accessing local services; and
  • in some circumstances, special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured and the bereaved.

West Midlands Employee Recognition Scheme 2020 - Gold and Silver Awards

The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) was launched in 2014 to recognise those employers who support Defence People objectives and encourage others to exhibit the same behaviours. The Ministry of Defence's intent is to publicly recognise the most supportive employers in order to thank them, encourage similar behaviour and advocacy in other employers and promote the benefits of working with Defence on people issues.

There are currently 455 Armed Forces Covenants signed by organisations in the West Midlands. Our region has 68 Silver Award winners and 17 Gold Award winners from previous years.
