The government has now (11 May 2020) published its latest guidance on coronavirus recovery. It includes examining how to enable slightly larger groups to gather for events such as small weddings during stage 2, which will not be before 1 June and only if the correct conditions are met. While no further detail is available as yet, General Register Office is working closely with partners from across government to develop plans for how this may operate. The Local Registration Groups are therefore being engaged on a regular basis and will continue to be closely consulted as proposals develop.
Until otherwise advised by General Register Office and Government the registration service should continue to adhere to the existing guidance for deferring birth registrations, completing still-birth and deaths registrations over the phone and no marriages and civil partnership ceremonies to take place until at least the 1 June 2020 review.
