If you do not follow the building control procedures set out for handling your building work or you carry out building work which does not comply with the requirements contained in the Building Regulations, you will have contravened the Regulations:
- the person doing the work could be prosecuted and fined if they don’t comply with building regulations
- you could also be made to pay for faulty work to be fixed
- without approval you won’t have the certificates of compliance you may need when you want to sell your home.
