We know that many people in our borough continue to face financial hardship

One of our key priorities is to help those in fuel poverty and so we have developed an Affordable Warmth Strategy which aims to reduce the number of fuel poor households in the borough, raise energy awareness and provide support.

Our Telford Energy Advice (TEA) service offers free, impartial energy advice, bespoke to the individual circumstances of our residents.

Our friendly, dedicated team of experts can help with a range of queries, including:

  • general help and advice relating to energy efficiency and bills
  • help with tackling fuel debt and issues with energy suppliers
  • help accessing grants for insulation and heating improvements
  • home energy checks and free energy saving measures.

Warm and well Telford

The council is committed to reducing fuel poverty and upgrading homes in order to help householders reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions. Warm and well Telford is the latest addition to a number of energy efficiency grants and support schemes that the council is already offering to borough households and includes smart thermostatic radiator valves, energy efficient glazing and external doors.

Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)

You can apply for a government funded scheme that provides energy efficiency improvements for households that have properties with no mains gas boiler.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

If your home has an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of E or lower, you may be eligible for free energy efficiency upgrades, through the ECO4 initiative.

Warmer homes discount

The warm homes discount scheme is a one-off discount off your electricity bill. If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill (the money is not paid to you). You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible.

Cold weather payment

If you are eligible you'll get £25 for each seven day period that the average temperature in your area is recorded as or forecast to be zero degrees celsius or below. The cold weather payment scheme runs from 1 November to 31 March.

Winter fuel payment

If you were born before 23 September 1958 you could get either £200 or £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter 2024 to 2025. This is known as a ‘winter fuel payment’. You may be eligible if you or your partner get certain benefits.
