Project funding

The project was funded by the additional Council budget allocation for public rights of way. The total cost clearing the route, installing a new surface and replacing the existing steps was approximately £35,000.

Time period for the project

Work commenced September 2022 and was completed in October 2022

Community involvement

The project was initiated due to a number of concerns raised by local users and was sponsored by local ward members. The site was assessed by the Rights of Way Team, and the project was delivered by the Council’s Term Contractor, AJB Contracting Ltd.

Why the project was implemented

Over a period of time the footpath has become muddy and challenging to pass, additionally the steps had deteriorated and become difficult to use.

Project details

Side growth and tree canopies were removed to prevent further erosion. The path was scraped of existing detritus. A new sub-base and surface was installed and the steps were taken down and replaced.

The benefits resulting from completion of the project

The new surface has proved an all-weather facility maintaining an important link between St Georges and a Local Nature Reserve.
