Telford & Wrekin Council building a bright future for Oakengates

Telford & Wrekin Council is dedicated to providing children with the best possible start in life. As part of this commitment, we are relocating Oakengates Nursery School to a brand new, purpose built facility on Charlton Street.

This move is central to our broader regeneration of Oakengates Theatre and aligns with the UK Government’s Levelling Up initiative. Our vision is to create a modern, immersive learning environment that fosters early childhood development and supports the needs of families in the community.

This project is supported by the Levelling Up fund and Telford & Wrekin Council.

The new Oakengates Nursery will be constructed on the former Cartlidge House site, just a third of a mile from its current location at the theatre. Designed with a capacity for 108 children, this state-of-the-art facility will feature:

• modern amenities tailored to early year’s education
• landscaped outdoor spaces to encourage exploration and play
• dedicated parking for ease of access
• optimal learning environments that provide a welcoming space for children and staff.

The relocation ensures that Oakengates Nursery will continue to serve the community with the same intake capacity, but with enhanced resources and facilities. This project reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality early education and supporting the growing needs of local families.

The new nursery forms part of the larger redevelopment of Oakengates Theatre, marking a significant investment in the area. The theatre’s transformation will include a new auditorium, studio theatre, and additional community spaces, further elevating the cultural and educational offerings in Oakengates.
