Extensive Clearance of Restricted By-Way 13A in Chetwynd

Description

RB13A is part of the Old Roman Road running from Whitchurch to Watling Street, it forms one of the borders of the Parish of Chetwynd and also abuts the neighbouring authorities of Shropshire and Staffordshire there by providing an important strategic link for the Rights of Way network in Telford & Wrekin to those areas.

Community involvement

The clearance of the route was an important part of the Parish Councils aspirations to improve the Right of Way network in Chetwynd. The clearance of the route was a keystone project in achieving this ambition. Representations regarding the restoration of the route had been submitted to the Parish Council by local residents. The site was assessed by the Rights of Way Team, and the project was delivered by the Council’s Term Contractor, AJB Contracting Ltd.

Why the project was implemented

This important strategic route had become very overgrown and impassable over a number of decades and a large scale project to restore the full width of this historical road was required to enable future maintenance and clearance to be delivered when necessary.

The project was funded by the additional Council budget allocation for public rights of way.

What are the benefits to the community now?

The restoration of this historic Right of Way has been enthusiastically received by local users and by the Parish Council. Telford & Wrekin Council has an extensive and attractive rural Rights of Way network and the completion of this project will provide an important link for walkers and horse riders in neighbouring authorities to take advantage of this resource.
